35 more jobs cut at UCI

UC-Irvine has cut an additional 35 jobs affecting custodial employees who worked at the university under a contract with ABM Industries, the university confirms. Hay, assistant vice chancellor of facilities management, said the custodial and groundsworker layoffs were due to a 20% cut in the department’s operating expenses.  He said it is part of the university’s overall effort to close a $77 million funding gap created by state budget cuts
